An astonishing variety of amazing marine life can be found here! Thanks to photos shared by Rene and Sam on facebook, we have a glimpse of what they found and how a dredge is conducted.

The Tropical Marine Science Institute (TMSI) team conducted a dredge with volunteer support in early June. During the dredge, relatively small samples of the sea bed is taken.

These and as many specimens as possible are quickly preserved on the spot.

More sorting is done back at the TMSI lab on St. John's Island to pick out every tiny creature that lives at the bottom of our waters.

Photos are also taken. Here's some of the photos Rene shared of the finds during the dredge. Lots and lots of sea cucumbers!

Everything has to be properly labelled. It's lots of back breaking and careful work. But very satisfying to find out what lives at the bottom of the sea!
